How do we make Webworks work?

on Tue, 11/23/2010 - 10:56

Barcamp Cork IV took place in Webworks on Saturday. Excellent event - over 80 web developers, web designers and entrepreneurs gathered to discuss a wide range of topics covering content management systems, e-mail marketing, social media, search engine optimisation, business development, and more. There was a great buzz about the place and you definitely got the sense that Cork was a 'hub' for web publishing and digital media. Unfortunately, it only lasted a day!

Webworks is an Enterprise Ireland-supported centre; it's located on Eglington Street, near the City Hall.

The Dublin Web Summit

on Thu, 11/11/2010 - 16:44

I attended the Dublin Web Summit on October 28th and 29th. It's a great event and goes a long way towards establishing Dublin as a hub for innovation in digital media. The headline speakers included Niklas Zennstrom (founder of Skype), Chad Hurley (YouTube), Jack Dorsey (Twitter), Michael Birch (Bebo), and Brent Hoberman (lastminute.com). Excellent venue too - Chartered Accountants House was not the old Georgian building I was expecting!

Terrific achievement by the organiser, Paddy Cosgrave.

Makes you wonder, though, how do you follow that?
